Our ceramics journey started with a three hour pottery wheel throwing lesson in South London which was bought as a gift for my birthday in 2025. It was like something clicked in my brain; creating, muddy hands, and the anticipatory dopamine awaiting the final results when your creation comes out of the kiln - I was hooked!

Turns out that one session was not enough, so pottery was brought to the kitchen counter. Hours of frustration at having amazing ideas and not being able to figure out how to get the clay to do what I wanted, I joined the wonderful Julie Sebastiano at Village Pottery Shepperton for weekly lessons.

I have since converted the playroom into the studio (lets be honest, its still a playroom but now its full of crafts and clay instead of toys) and invested in a throwing wheel. I'm in love!

This is the first thing that I created when I tried using the throwing wheel. While most people would have thrown it in the bin, I thought it was funny at the time to keep it. Now I actually think its a really great marker for how much I have learned. And a reminder that not everything is perfect but it will get better!
